Vietnam's export revenue forecast to hit 148 bln USD in 2014

Vietnam's export revenue in 2014 is forecast to hike 12 percent year-on-year to hit 148 billion U.S. dollars, 10 percent higher than earlier target set by the National Assembly, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA reported on Friday.

VNA quoted the latest report by Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) as saying that in the first nine months, Vietnam earned 109.63 billion U.S. dollars from exports, up 14.2 percent year-on-year.

Among those, the domestic sector generated export revenue of 36. 63 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.2 percent year-on-year while the foreign invested sector (including crude oil) pocketed 73 billion U.S. dollars from exports, up 14.1 percent year-on-year.

The ministry forecast that garment and phones will be two items with export revenues exceeding 20 billion U.S. dollars in 2014.

Phan Thi Dieu Ha, deputy director of the Export-Import Department under the MoIT, said on Friday that nine-month export revenue of many industrial and agro-forestry-fishery products witnessed growth, especially that of seafood, vegetables and fruits, pepper, cashew nuts, and coffee.

Specifically, during the January-September period, vegetables and fruits saw an export increase of 42.7 percent year-on-year, said Ha.

Meanwhile, the country experienced positive signals from exports to new markets in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean among others.

In the first nine months, Vietnam's exports to Africa went up 50 percent year-on-year while that to Latin America and the Caribbean increased by 25 percent year-on-year.

These figures showed that the goal of diversifying markets of Vietnamese exports are following a right direction, reported VNA.
