Turkey president visits Algeria to deepen bilateral ties

Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has started Wednesday a two-day visit to Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Erdogan was welcomed at his arrival in the Algiers International Airport by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

A statement from the President Office said that the visit of Erdogan is part of "continuous strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries, bound by a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 2006."

The Turkish delegation is composed of ministers, parliamentarians and businessmen. The Turkish President is due to attend with Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal an economic conference gathering the two nations' businessmen.

According to official figures, some 200 Turkish companies are activating in Algeria in areas of food stuff, automotive, agricultural machinery, hydraulics, mining and ballistic equipment.

The most important Turkish investment in Algeria is the ongoing construction of a mega textile production group in the western province of Relizene, which is expected to generate some 25,000 jobs.
