Myanmar's foreign trade hits over 17 billion USD in 8 months

Myanmar foreign trade hit 17.5 billion U.S.dollars in the first eight months (April-Nov) of the fiscal year 2014-15, local media reported Wednesday.

The country saw export standing at 6.99 billion U.S.dollars in the eight-month period while import reached 10.51 billion U.S. dollars, generating a trade deficit of 3.52 billion U.S.dollars.

Of the total, normal trade reached 13.66 billion U.S.dollars while border trade totalled 3.85 billion U.S.dollars.

The export items included rice, maize, peas and beans, sesame, rubber, marine products, teak, hard wood, natural gas, jade, garment while import items included dairy products, palm oil, pharmaceutical products, cement, machinery, electronic equipment and plastics.

Statistics show that in the fiscal year 2013-14, Myanmar's foreign trade stood at 24.963 billion U.S.dollars, of which the export took 11.204 billion U.S.dollars, while the import totalled 13.759 billion U.S.dollars.
