TCP buys only 12,400 bales of cotton: PCGA

Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has purchased only 12,400 bales of cotton, while 1,21,45,705 cotton bales were sourced to the country's ginners by December 1 ,2014, showing an increase of 9.96 per cent than last year when ginneries received 95,18,130 bales, according to a fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA). 

Briefing newsmen about seed-cotton (phutti) arrivals, sales and unsold stock of cotton, PCGA Chairman Hafeez Anwar said that 93,75,690 cotton bales were sold to the textile units, TCP procured 12,400 and exporters bought 3,13,830 bales. Thus, overall 97,00,920 bales were traded so far. 

Claiming that PCGA was following the production target of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee, Anwar said that out of 1200 ginning factories, 1139 (877 in Punjab and 262 in Sindh) are operational in the two provinces. He said that Punjab contributed 84,98,129 bales, which is 12.32 per cent more than last year, when Punjab contributed 76,82,905 bales; Sindh contributed 36,47,576 bales, which is 4.83pc more than last year when it contributed 34,79,480 bales. After the total trading of 97,00,920 bales, there are 24,44,785 bales available with ginners as unsold stock. 

The PCGA chief, who is pessimistic about stability of prices of cotton in the market, gave district-wise cotton arrival in Punjab as follows: Multan 3,86,628 bales, Lodhran (2,58,142) bales, Khanewal (8,24,109), Muzaffargarh (4,47,597), Dera Ghazi Khan (4,23,852) Rajanpur (5,20,553), Layyah (3,30,903), Vehari (6,91,985), Sahiwal (5,05,604), Pakpattan (1,64,950), Okara (49,700), Kasur (18,750), Toba Tek Singh (2,51.836), Faisalabad (80,321), Jhang (64,794), Mianwali (2,30,128), Bhakkar (1,35,896), Sargodha (15,330), Rahimyarkhan (10,20,679), Bahawalpur (9,97,258) and Bahawalnagar (9,17,000) bales. 

District-wise cotton arrival in Sindh is as follows: Hyderabad (2,48,996) bales, Mirpurkhas (3,79,716), Sangarh (13,91,041), Nawabshah (2,73,728), Naushero Feroze (2, 3,936), Khairpur (2,13,473), Ghotki (1,32,442), Sukkur (3,18,855), Jamshoro (1,35,500), Badin (53,800) and Balochistan (58,191) bales. Ginneries received 17,07,632 bales during the last fortnight (from November 16 to December 1). Unsold stock is 24,44,785 which is more than last year when it reached to 19,75,285 bales, he added.
