Telangana subsidises power tariff for textile sector
The Telangana government has decided to give Rs 2 per unit subsidy on power tariff to textile industries in the state.
The decision was taken by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, at a review meeting on industries, to help the ailing textile sector, including spinning mills, overcome the current crisis phase and to provide relief to workers.
About 40,000 people are working in different spinning mills in the state and the decision to reduce power tariff was taken in the interest of these workmen as the spinning mills are facing crisis, a state government release said.
The decision to provide Rs 2 per unit subsidy in electricity tariff to spinning mills would be reviewed after one year or after the tariff for the next financial year, 2017-18, is finalised next year.
The tariff finalised by the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) on June 23 ranged between Rs 5.65 and Rs 7.60 per kwh for different contracted load categories in the textile sector. These tariffs will now be reduced by Rs 2 per kwh.
