Denmark-ILO deal to boost B'desh RMG sector
Denmark and the International Labour Organization (ILO) signed an agreement on Thursday to work together in Bangladesh on a project titled 'Promoting Social Dialogue and Harmonious Industrial Relations in the RMG Sector'.
Danish Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskjær and acting Country Director of ILO, Bangladesh Gagan Rajbhandari signed the agreement on their respective sides. The project is jointly funded by Denmark and Sweden, and will be implemented by ILO over the course of the next five years.
"Denmark believes that fundamental principles and rights at work are promoted best through effective social dialogue. I'm happy that this project will address needs for both workers and employers leading to a stronger RMG sector in Bangladesh," said Ambassador Eskjær. Rajbhandari reaffirmed the ILO's commitment to promoting improved industrial relations, through social dialogue in the RMG sector.
Over the last three years, the RMG sector in Bangladesh has experienced a wave of transformation which has been welcomed by all stakeholders. The Danish government, through this important contribution, will greatly assist to sustain and increase the momentum.
