ICF urges Indian government to set up Cotton Board
The Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) has urged the Indian government to set up a Cotton Board on the lines of the Coffee and Jute boards. It also urged the government to make it obligatory to provide bale pressing figures by cotton ginning factories, so that reliable figures are available to avoid volatility in prices, especially towards the end of the season.
According to media agencies, these demands were made by J Thulasidharan, president ICF in his address at the 37th Annual General Meeting of ICF.
“In order to guarantee quality of the raw cotton, each bale coming out of the ginning plant should also be marked with bales numbers and press marks,” he added.
He further added that data on import or export of cotton should be made available on a daily basis, while capital should be extended to finance cotton purchases at interest rates of around seven per cent.
