Nigerian govt inks MoU with Clothing 360

To promote implementation of the government’s policy on cotton, textile and garment (CTG) sector, Nigerian ministry of industry, trade and investment has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Clothing 360. The MoU aims at more private sector participation and also improving the development of readymade garments (RMG) industry in Nigeria.

The MoU aims to “concretise and harmonise ideas with a view to ensuring more private sector participation”, said minister of industry, trade and investment Aisha Abubakar at the signing ceremony. Public private partnership would help the CTG industry grow faster, she added, News Agency of Nigeria reported.

“The signing of the MoU is going to enable us forge ahead with more determination and to see results towards the sustainable development of CTG value chain,” said Clothing 360 director Oreofe Akinkugbe. Clothing 360 was founded to stimulate concerted effort to organise and develop Nigeria’s RMG industry, and by extension the CTG value chain. The organisation has been advocating for Nigeria to use the RMG industry to lead Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) of its CTG value chain.

“We are delighted that you share in our vision which is that Nigeria can one day become the preferred emerging hub for global export of quality and affordable RMG and textiles,” added Akinkugbe.
